First and foremost keep in mind that I do not speak for nor am I a designated representative of any Masonic Body or organization. The opinions and observations expressed here are my own and may or may not reflect the opinions of other Masons. Freemasonry, Masonry, The Craft, however you call it, is not a religion. I include this Introduction to Freemasonry in, what is primarily, a Theological website because I, personally, have found the instruction, guidelines and fraternal relations of Freemasonry to be some of the greatest tools available to the spiritual traveler. Freemasonry is not a religion nor is it an individual spiritual path. It is a Path walked by spiritual individuals. The teachings of Freemasonry can create many different responses within the Initiate. Some members find satisfaction in the fraternal relations of the Lodges and the social events. Some members see the Craft simply as a collection of immortal moral guidelines by which they strive to conduct themselves amongst their fellows. Some members see within the Rituals and Symbols Keys by which they can become better acquainted with the spiritual powers of our reality. If a person claims that Freemasonry is one and only one of these aspects, they are mistaken. The Craft embodies all of these aspects. Intermixed, yet appealing separately. When a person is initiated into the Fraternity of Freemasonry they find doors opened to them for what they find is lacking in themselves. The lonely find camaraderie. The confused find tools by which they might better govern their own lives. The Seeker after Truth finds hints and clues to teachings that existed long before the Trowel or Level were ever known. The Craft is not a series of lectures that allows you to absorb and walk away with instant wisdom. It is not a step-by-step process that allows you to follow rules without truly understanding them. The Craft is work. The Craft is Labor. You are given direction, motivation and inspiration. What you achieve within Freemasonry is completely up to the you. All of the above describes what an Initiate finds within the folds of Freemasonry but the Craft is not a single window which you gaze through and see what you, the seeker needs to see. Freemasonry is a many faceted jewel. To gaze into the jewel from one side offers a different view of the interior than does the view from another side. The links presented here will expose you to the many facets of Freemasonry throughout the world. Freemasonry is a growing and evolving universal Brotherhood so information and ideas change. This information is not and could never be considered definitive. It is simply an introduction. To truly understand the feel and experience of this Path you must walk it yourself.
